I am a native of Havelock, North Carolina born in a small-town area called Harlowe with a population of 3,920 residents. I'm the second oldest of six children of Mr. Rufus Sr. & Victoria Carter . I have four beautiful children and four lovely grandchildren. I am a graduate of Havelock High School Class of 1978.
September 7, 1978 I enlisted in the United Stated Army Reserves and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. I then transferred to Fort Eustis, Virginia where I received training at the US Army Transportation Center. My Military Occupation Specialty was a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic, which is MOS code 63B10. This job maintains the power of assisted brake systems, wheel vehicle suspension systems, wheel vehicle wheel/hub assemblies, wheel vehicle mechanical (manual) steering systems, wheel vehicle hydraulic (power) steering systems, and wheel vehicle crane/ hoses /winch assemblies. After AIT (Advanced Individual Training) , I was assigned to the 824 Transportation Unit in Morehead City, North Carolina until being discharged on August 20, 1984.
Looking at our military , who I fully support , I was able to be part of force that outlined the type of Military Vehicle that was used to transport cargo by ground. This vehicle was called the Hum-V, along with another type carrier used to transport cargo across the waterways , called the (LCU) Landing Craft Utility vessel.
