Craven County is my home. The life style is different from the city but it has a lot of love in it. I'm willing to stand on it's ground and fight against the thing that will threaten it or wants to harm it. Being a resident of Craven County and a citizen of the United States of America , we deserve to be heard knowing that our concerns will be looked into especially on the things that impacts the lives of the people living here .
There are many issues that surrounds our older resident's in our community. Just in their daily life circle which is important to them, they are looking for someone they can trust and talk to about their problems who has an open mind and won't turn a deaf ear towards them.
This is why I'm working so hard to be the next elected candidate for District 5 so that I can continue sharing my thoughts with them as well as showing how much I care about their problems. Can we rebuild our community? The answer to that question is yes ! Why ? Because WE will become a strong team on making decision, putting our ideas together on how to make District 5 a more safer and a peaceful place for our residents.
Type of issues that we are dealing with in district 5 are :
Environmental, Education, Deadly Epidemic, Health, and Our Waterways.
1. Environmental : This word surrounds our district of course. We have all the signs of environmental issues such as: climate change and global warming; human population; animal and nature conservation ; and natural disasters. These are just some of the things that we see in our affecting our environment.
2. Education another issue that concerns me. We all need to understand that the word education is for everyone and no one is too old to get an education. Technology is on the rise and a lot of our older families that are up in age don't understand the concept of technology or how it works. Watching and listening to different teachers on how this system is working is unbelievable and that's why as your commissioner I can improve our education system.
3. I believe that in our community there is a large consumption of opiods especially with our younger people. These opioids can contain natural opiates such as Morphine or Codeine. Our community also consumes synthetic or semi-synthetic opioids like Heroin , Oxycodone and Fentanyl . This is a growing issue within our district and it is killing rapidly.
4. H.I.V is another killer that may be in our district. The people of District 5 should be aware of this disease and could be vulnerable to catching this disease by sharing needles and sharing fluids in a way that it can be transmitted through contact. This is another growing concern I have for my community and it needs to stop immediately .
5. Offshore drilling would not be the best decision to make because it would be a devastation to our waterways in District 5. Offshore drilling is dirty, dangerous, and unnecessary. Studies shows that BP Deep water Horizon disaster spills can impact our District both environmentally and economically . This is something I know wouldn't benefit our community and that's why I'm willing to stand for you and fight along with others who support the decision of not drilling in our coastal waterways.
Safety Concerns:
After joining the HVFD (Harlowe Volunteer Fire Department) in 1999 until 2004 I was able to receive ongoing , practical, on-the-job training in safe operation emergency responses through the State of North Carolina. I also trained with the Fire Department as well becoming one of Fema Search and Rescue Team members, Havelock CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). Life is valuable and important when saving a life or someone belonging. Our North Carolina Highway Patrol and local Law enforcement who we all are dependent on, is needed in our district because of the traffic that flows throughout the day. Safety will be my number one priority for all of the residents who live in District 5.
